COVID-19 Policies for the 2020 Season
Due to our rural location with extremely limited medical care, we’ve implemented a number of safety precautions to keep our staff, community, and business safe. An outbreak of COVID-19 on the Gunflint Trail or in Cook County could mean the cancellation of yours and many others’ vacation plans and loss of our staff’s jobs. We need all Tuscarora guests to follow these policies, so please carefully review them. If you’re uncomfortable with any of the policies below, we look forward to seeing you again in a post-pandemic time. Thank you!
SHOP IN YOUR HOME COMMUNITY: Please do your “pre-trip” errands in your local community before driving up to Tuscarora. Many North Shore businesses have modified their business practices to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, so we HIGHLY recommend you purchase all necessary groceries, liquor, bait, and fuel needed before traveling. Click here for more information about services currently available in Cook County.
BUY YOUR FISHING LICENSE ONLINE: You must purchase your MN fishing license online before arriving to Tuscarora.
PACK YOUR FACE MASK: A face covering should be worn whenever interacting with Tuscarora staff and is required before getting into a Tuscarora vehicle or tow boat.
Social distancing: All Tuscarora guests must consciously practice social distancing by maintaining a 6’ distance from our staff members and other guests who are not in your group. If you are waiting to go inside the office, please sit on the porch benches. If someone is using the service window, please wait at the base of the steps.
Office access: Our outfitting office will be locked and we will allow one group inside at a time. At this point in time, we are unable to split bills and request that all payments be made by credit card -Visa or Mastercard only. We ask every one to wear a mask inside our office.
Gift shop: Our gift shop will operate through a service window on the outfitting office front porch. You can see our gift shop inventory online. Payment by Visa or Mastercard only.
Transportation: Guests must wear a face covering when riding in Tuscarora vehicles (including tow boats) as we transport you to and from your Boundary Waters entry points.
Cabins COVID-19 Policies
Check-in: There will be sign directing you to your cabin. You do not need to come to the office to check in.
Payment: We will charge the remaining balance for your stay on your credit card on the morning of your arrival. A receipt will be in your cabin. Please make sure you have provided us with the credit card you want your entire stay charged on. At this point in time, we are unable to split bills.
Amenities: To keep your cabin safe and clean, we have removed many items you might be used to finding, such as complimentary toiletries, board games/puzzles, cabin books, extra blankets, extra pillows, salt and pepper, etc. All of these items are available by request at the office service window.
Linens: Please let us know 24 hours prior to arrival if you will be using your own sheets and blankets during your stay. In this case, we will leave the cabin mattresses covered with clean mattress protectors and all pillows will be in clean pillow protectors.
Towels: Please let us know 24 hours prior to arrival if you will be bringing your own towels and dish towels.
Recycling: Our local recycling center has severely limited its operations due to COVID-19 and at this time, we cannot offer on-site recycling for our guests. If you wish to recycle, you must bring your recycling home with you.
Office hours: We are staffing the front office from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. (Memorial Day weekend – Labor Day weekend) via a service window on the front porch to help you with canoes, motor boats, gift shop purchases, etc.
Social distancing: We ask all Tuscarora guests to consciously practice social distancing by maintaining a 6’ distance from our staff members and other guests who are not in your group. If you are waiting to go inside the office, please sit on the porch benches. If someone is using the service window, please wait at the base of the steps.
Check out: For the safety of our staff, please wash all your dirty dishes, strip your bed, and place all trash in the outside bin. Remember to take your recycling home with you. Leave your cabin key on the dining table. You do not need to come to the office to check out.
Above all, we ask you to be patient, be kind and wash your hands!
